Windows Server 2012 R2

Microsoft has today confirmed that Windows Server 2012 R2 has also reached RTM, much like it’s brother Windows 8.1. RTM means Microsoft are now handing over the final code to OEM’s for testing, pre-loading and more.

Microsoft note that they are doing things a bit differently this time around regarding developers and consumers gaining access to the final bits. The company won’t be delivering the new OS straight away as they will be fine tuning the update with the 2 months they have between now and October 18. More so, Microsoft announced that the next update for Windows Intune will be available around the time of GA, as well as delivering Windows System Center 2012 R2.

For those that didn’t know, Windows Server 2012 R2 is the “Windows Server Blue” update for Windows Server 2012. Utilizing Storage Spaces, R2 delivers breakthrough performance at a fraction of the cost, according to Microsoft. R2 also features software defined networking, virtualization and live migration, access and information protection, Java application monitoring, and more.

Microsoft had also released the Preview of Windows Server 2012 R2 back in June of this year, offering a glimpse at what is to come with the newest server operating system. So as Microsoft states, mark your calendars, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 are almost here!
