A new rumor suggests that we might finally be seeing the two long lost Chassis’ of the Windows Phone platform. If this rumor is true, these two new Chassis bring with them a larger screen/resolution, LTE support, and a dual core CPU to the Windows Phone platform.
During the unveiling of the Windows Phone 7 Series, Microsoft admitted that one size doesn’t fit all. There were to be three different chassis’ that would make up the platform. Chassis one (800×480 screen, 1GHz CPU, 256MB RAM etc) came to fruition, but we never got to see Chassis 2, or Chassis 3.
“We haven’t announced any details on when that form factor is coming out. We are seeing is more interest in larger screens as opposed to smaller screens…but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to do it but we haven’t announced anything yet,” Microsoft had originally stated regarding Chassis 2 and Chassis 3.
Now a new rumor suggests that we might be seeing these two new Chassis’ after all. From what WPCentral is reporting, Chassis 2 will be features in Windows Phone 7 (codename Tango) and will have a 480×320 BlackBerry style design as well as LTE support. Chassis 3, Windows Phone 7 codename Apollo, will have a 1280×720 resolution and a dual core CPU.
Of course, treat this as a huge rumor for now. But if true, it would make a big impact in the smartphone arena. Post your thoughts in the comments below.Further reading: Microsoft, Windows Phone 7
