Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 coming to HTC One M8 for Windows on Verizon

Verizon Wireless may push an over-the-air update today for HTC One (M8) for Windows, finally bringing the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 version of the OS to owners of this HTC phone.

The announcement on a Verizon support only vaguely states that they are ”pleased to announce a software update designed to improve the performance of your HTC One (M8) for Windows smartphone” and just lists one bullet point under the enhancements that come with the upgrade, which is simply:

“OS Upgrade to General Distribution Release 2 (GDR2)”

Questions remain such as if there will be any concurrent firmware updates by HTC that allow the “Hey Cortana” passive listening feature enabled through GDR2, or if it will allow for the phone to sync with a keyboard via Bluetooth. The former is technically feasible as the HTC One M8 comes with the Snapdragon 801 processor required of Lumias to support the feature, and the latter is enabled for the Lumia 640 which comes with GDR2 installed out of the box.

If you own the HTC One M8 for Windows keep on the lookout for the update which has the build number 2061.30.30501.605 and let us know in the comments which features are enabled in the new update.
