Windows Phone 8.1 receives official Bluetooth certification

You might be hanging on for Windows 8.1 Update 1 or even Windows 9, but the next big release from Microsoft is going to be Windows Phone 8.1. We’re not quite sure when the update will official see the light of day, but the current rumor is that an RTM build will be ready in time for BUILD, with a possible public release in May — we’ll just have to see how things pan out.

But progress is being made, and the latest step on the journey is Bluetooth certification. As of January 31, Windows Phone 8.1 has been official Bluetooth 4. 0 certified and this is confirmed by a listing on the Bluetooth SIG website.

This is the latest Windows Phone 8.1 news, and it’s good to see something solid rather than leaks and rumors. A lot of speculation has stemmed from information coming from Nawzil on Twitter. A tweet posted today feature just a version number (8.10.12299.0), so it’s possible we may see some more screenshots or other details over the coming days.

Microsoft has already confirmed that all handsets currently running Windows Phone 8 will be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1.
