Welcome back to our Windows news recap, where we go over the top stories of the past week in the world of Microsoft’s flagship operating system.

Windows 11’s Smart App Control now blocks more types of files used to push malware

Smart App Control is a feature in Windows 11 that Microsoft has been testing, which uses cloud-powered security services from Microsoft to identify malicious software and block its installation. In an update, the feature can now block a wider variety of file types, with ISO and Ink being added to the list.

Amazon Prime Video app updates on Xbox and Windows with new design

An update for Amazon Prime Video on both Windows and Xbox has brought a new design. Predominantly, the new design showcases more menu content on the screen, as well as making content included for free with Amazon Prime Video more clearly labelled.

Internet Explorer still lurks in Windows 11

Support for Internet Explorer ended on June 15, and Microsoft has made all references to Internet Explorer redirect users to Microsoft Edge, except one route which still allows users to access Internet Explorer, and it appears to function as normal. You can read here on how to still access Internet Explorer, if for any reason you needed to.
