The Skype team has announced the release a new update to the Skype Preview app for Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring, bringing several new features to the all-in-one messaging app on Windows 10 devices. For users who use Skype to call to people speaking different languages, the highlight of this new release is the addition of Skype Translator to get live voice translation for calls to mobiles and landlines.
Skype Translator currently supports nine spoken languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese (Mandarin), Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Arabic, and Russian. To use it for calling phone numbers, remember that you’ll first need to have Skype credit or a subscription. Additionally, you can toggle Skype Translator when using the dial pad to call any number, or you can enable it before calling one of your Skype contacts with a mobile or landline stored in the profile.
This latest version of Skype UWP also brings other new features such as video messages, call forwarding and more. The Skype team shared the following details:
- Introduce friends and family on Skype by sharing their Skype contact details
- Capture and share video messages with friends and family on Skype—even if they’re not online
- Manage your conversations and save time by marking conversations as read or unread
- Don’t miss another call by forwarding them to a mobile or landline
Fast Ring Insiders can get the latest version 11.10.141.0 right now from the download link below, while non-Insiders will have to wait a little more for the Skype team to push this update to the production ring.
