Microsoft has offered insight to those who are wondering if they are able to uninstall the Windows 8 Consumer Preview or even upgrade from a previous version of Windows.
Can a user uninstall Windows 8 Consumer Preview? According to Microsoft, the answer is no. “To go back to your previous version of Windows, you’ll need to reinstall it from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC.”
As far as upgrading to Windows 8 Consumer Preview, those on the Windows 8 Developer Preview can keep their user accounts and files, while those on Windows 7 can keep their programs, Windows settings, as well as user accounts and files. Windows Vista users will not be able to keep their programs, but can keep their Windows settings, as well as user accounts and files. Windows XP users can only keep their user accounts and files.
