Welcome back to our weekly Windows 10 Mobile news recap series, where we go over the top stories of the past week in the world of Microsoft’s mobile operating system. Let’s get started.
Panorama mode comes to all Windows 10 Mobile users
The majority of us take pictures every once in a while with our cell phones. Sometimes, the situation calls for us needing to take a much wider picture than the lens of our cameras allow. It’s in these types of situations where most most people would switch to the panorama mode on their phone’s camera, but Windows 10 Mobile users have been largely denied this feature for quite a long time now. Thankfully, in the latest update to Windows 10 Mobile’s Camera app, the long-awaited panorama mode that Insiders have been testing out for the past month has made it to every device.
Lumia starts closing down some of its Instagram accounts
Lumia hasn’t exactly been on an upswing recently, and it shows. The company has been closing the doors on many of its social media pages over the last few months, attempting to merge its separate accounts into more of a unified, international account. This strategy extended to Instagram this week, as several Lumia Instagram pages were brought down. Whether this is indicative of a larger strategy to downplay Lumia or it really is just an attempt to concentrate Lumia’s online presence we’re yet to see for sure.
Two new Windows 10 Mobile phones on their way
If you’re looking to get a shiny new Windows 10 Mobile device, you don’t have all that many options. Two manufacturers this week announced that they’re going to be offering a few more choices to Windows 10 Mobile fans, creating brand new handsets for the OS. One device isn’t officially named yet and is coming from the Connecticut manufacturer WhartonBrooks. The other device is a relatively low-end piece of hardware coming from Chinese manufacturer Cube.
HP Elite x3 has support for its fingerprint reader in the Anniversary Update
The fingerprint reader has been an interesting new security measure that many mobile phone users have been getting used to over the past couple of years. On top of adding an extra layer of both security and convenience, the functionality is just extremely cool. There’s something about scanning your finger on your phone that just makes it feel like a space-age device. The HP Elite x3 has support for its fingerprint reader in the Windows 10 Anniversary update, so you can feel free to scan your fingertips at your heart’s content.
