According to a new report from WindowsBlogItalia (via Windows Central), Microsoft is currently working on a new version of the Block and Filter app for Windows 10 Mobile. If you’re not familiar with this app, it’s a hidden system app that hooks into the Windows 10 Mobile Phone and Messaging apps to allow users to block spam calls and messages right from these apps.
According to WindowsBlogItalia, the new app will be called “ID & Filter” and will no longer be a “hidden” app. As you can see in the screenshots below, it’s available in the apps list and users can also pin it on their start screens:
According to one of the other screenshots, the new app “provides info about numbers known to send spam, and show caller ID info about business who contact you.” The report also reveals that the new ID & Filter app will feature other interesting functionalities:
- Users would be able to connect the app with their Microsoft account to sync blocked numbers accross different Windows 10 Mobile devices.
- It would be possible to set quiet hours for blocked numbers
- Users would be allowed to add blocked numbers to different categories such as “Ads & Promotions”, “Real estate” and “Delivery” among others.
We don’t know yet if Microsoft plans to release this app soon for Windows Insiders, and so we’ll see what happens with the upcoming Windows 10 Mobile Insider builds. Otherwise, making this system app more visible in Windows 10 Mobile (similarly to the new Gadgets app that allows users to easily manage their connected devices) seems like a good idea as some users may not be aware of all these native blocking options yet.
