Windows 10 Fall Creators Update gets a cumulative update to address issues with USB devices

Microsoft today released a new cumulative update for PCs running the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (via Neowin.) This update is fairly minor, but it bumps the latest version of Windows 10 to build 16299.251. It also helps address an important issue where certain USB devices might have stopped working.

As always, this patch should automatically appear now in Windows Update as KB4090913. You also can manually download it by clicking here. Please be aware there is only one fix for this release.

Addresses an issue in which some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard, or mouse, stop working. This may occur when the Windows Update servicing stack incorrectly skips installing the newer version of some critical drivers in the cumulative update and uninstalls the currently active drivers during maintenance.

There are also known issues with this update, including the ongoing issue where you might not be able to download this update if your AV software hasn’t been updated with a specific registry key. Other known issues involve Windows Update History reporting that KB4054517 failed to install, and another problem where some devices may fail to start, and return INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Microsoft is working on solutions and recommends to verify that your computer is running the latest build after an update and also check this guide for more help.
