It’s that time of year when we start to think about the gifts we might like to purchase for friends and family, draw up a list of things we’d like other people to buy for us, or decide not to hang about and just buy ourselves a present. If you’re a tech lover, you’ll know that you don’t need much of an excuse to splash out on the latest gadget. The lure of the new, shiny and electronic can be too much to bear sometimes, but what are you putting on your holiday shopping list?
Top of most lists will be the Xbox One. At the moment it is not clear just how easy it will be to get hold of the console if you have not already pre-ordered one. There is little doubt that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be fighting it out for the title of most popular gift of 2013.
Maybe you’ll already have your new console in place by this Friday, so perhaps you’ll be looking for games and accessories; this might also be the case if you are sticking with your Xbox 360 or other console.
But of course these are far from being the only techy gifts of interest. 2013 has been a year of impressive releases. We are already on the second generation of Surface devices. Is now the time you decide it is time to get on board? And if you do decide that Surface is the platform for you, will you opt for the Surface 2 or the Surface 2 Pro — or maybe even keep things cheap and go for the original Surface running Windows RT?
This time of year is as good as any to start thinking about investing in a new handset. There have been plenty of exciting offerings coming from the Nokia stables over the last twelve month. Which one are you tempted by?
How about a new laptop or multi-mode device such as Lenovo’s Yoga? There has been a great deal of innovation in computer design recently, and there is more choice in terms of looks and form factors than ever before.
There is more than just hardware to consider, though. If you have delayed getting yourself an Office 365 subscription, now is a great time to get involved. Is your partners complaining about running out of online storage space? Why not upgrade their SkyDrive account as a seasonal gift?
So — if money was limitless, what would be appearing on your list… and how does this compare to your more realistic list? We’d love to know what you’re yearning for, so share your desires in the comments.Further reading: Microsoft, Nokia, Surface, Xbox One
