This Week on Xbox

Last week was a busy week for Xbox news, and while this week was a quieter affair, there are some notable announcements to keep an eye out for. As usual Larry Hryb updates us on these in his “This week on Xbox” video series. Check out the highlights below the video.

NFL app by Microsoft
Just as the new NFL season kicks off, Microsoft has released a free NFL app for Windows 10 to join the existing Xbox One NFL app. The new app has similar functionality to the Xbox app except that it doesn’t stream live video. As both apps are developed by Microsoft, you can expect a top notch experience. The NFL app also includes the cool Next-Gen Stats feature that uses sensors in the players clothes to create an interactive virtual field full of virtual players.

Press Play to develop Project: Knoxville
Press Play game studio used an unusual strategy to decide which game they would develop next; they asked their fans to choose. This week we found out that Press Play would begin development on Project: Knoxville based on fan participation. This is a multi-player action survival game where players can choose to work together or against each other. However, all players can survive if they choose friendship over greed. It’s a great concept for a game and in the video below, you can see early prototype footage because obviously they’re still developing it.

Forza Motorsport 6 TV spot
Forza Motorsport 6  will be hitting shelves next Tuesday, so there is a big ad campaign for the game. This particular ad may be noteworthy because it shows a Forza car driving through 40 years worth of old racing games with the tagline of “This is what we’ve been racing toward”.

EA Access News
If you’re an EA Access member, you can now play NHL 16; a week before the game is officially released. Not only that, but next week members will be able to try out FIFA 16.
[email protected]
[email protected] is a Microsoft program that allows independent developers to publish on Xbox One. Recent [email protected] releases include Cluster Puck 99, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Castle Crashers Remastered, Draw a Stickman: EPIC, Oriana and the Harpie’s Feather and Leo’s Fortune.
That’s your lot for this week’s Xbox news. Next week is expected to be a busy one with the release of both Destiny: The Taken King and Forza Motorsport 6. Tune in then for all the updates.
