Visual Studio 2013 confirms upcoming 1080p support in Windows Phone 8

1080p Windows Phone

For those that didn’t know, Windows Phone 8 is set for an update that will allow for Full HD support, including 1080p resolutions. This update is part of General Distribution Release 3 (GDR3) or Windows Phone Blue and is expected late this year, if not early next year.

Windows Phone currently supports WVGA, WXGA, and 720p resolutions and this new update is expected to add 1080p support as well. Recently, Microsoft rolled out the Visual Studio 2013 Preview during Build 2013 and one developer was able to dig up Windows Phone emulator files that support the 1080P resolution.

The emulator in Visual Studio, for those who do not develop apps, is used to simulate a Windows Phone environment to test out your creation. By having 1080p support in the emulator, one can easily test an app on that resolution. Microsoft wouldn’t have added this resolution if the company wasn’t planning on adding 1080p support to Windows Phone 8. This also proves that Microsoft is indeed pushing forward to a higher resolution Windows Phone devices.

Imagine the possibilities and tile rows with a higher resolution Windows Phone 8 device.
