Here are three creative uses for your Windows Phone device

There is a plethora of apps for Windows Phone with all kinds of creative and amazing uses. Little did you know, you can actually repurpose your Windows phone with a few neat tricks. Microsoft has showed us some pretty neat tricks, and we thought we'd show you them. From creating origami to making your own homemade screen projector, your phone can do more than you think. Here you will learn some of those cool tricks, enjoy!

How to create a homemade screen projector

Homemade Projector

This inexpensive projector is a neat project for anyone to try. Just use your phone and a few household tools, and voila.

What you'll need 

  • Windows phone 
  • Shoebox 
  • Paint and a brush 
  • Scissors 
  • Paperclip 
  • Black duck tape 
  • Felt tip marker or pen 
  • Magnifying glass 


  1. Paint the bottom of a shoebox black so you get the best image quality. 
  2. Trace the outer edge of a magnifying glass onto one of the short sides of the shoebox. 
  3. Cut out the inside of the circle you just traced around the magnifying glass. 
  4. Aline the magnifying glass with the hole and securely put the tape around the entire lens of your magnifying glass. 
  5. Bend the paperclip into a Z shape so it can hold up your phone. 
  6. Put the paperclip stand inside the shoebox, open your favorite show or movie, then put the phone in the shoebox. 
  7. Face the finished projector in front of a blank wall. 
  8. Turn off all the lights, pop some popcorn, and press play to watch!

How to create a stencil art with PicSketch

With PicSketch, you can create amazing, realistic pencil styled art with little difficulty. It's a must have for creative and calculated types alike, and doesn't take much more than regular household items.

What you need 

  • Windows phone 
  • PicSketch app 
  • Printer 
  • Stencil cutting mat 
  • Scalpel 
  • Paint and a brush 
  • Spray mount 


  1. Download PicSketch for free on the Windows Store. 
  2. Choose 'camera' in the app to take a picture for turning into a sketch. 
  3. Select your image and let it process into a sketch. 
  4. Print the photo in black and white. 
  5. Cut the stencil out with the scalpel by removing the shaded areas. 
  6. Put the stencil onto a surface which ou want to be painted. 
  7. Carefully paint over the stencil. 
  8. Peel the stencil of the surface to reveal your art.

How to make origami using the Origami app 

If you've ever wanted to get into origami, but didn't know how, this app will take you through the process of folding your very own origami art piece, getting you the start you need. 

What you need 

  • Windows Phone 
  • Origami app 
  • Paper 


  1. Download the free Origami app on the Windows Store 
  2. Click on 'Lessons' to pick one of a number of objects you'd like to turn into an origami. 
  3. After you have selected one, follow the step-by-step tutorial that tells you how to create you own origami!
