At midnight tonight, the wait is over. It seems like forever since the Xbox One was announced, but it is finally here. Pre-orders have been open for some time now, but not everyone was in a position to place an order so far ahead of the launch. UK supermarket Tesco has now announced that more than one hundred of its stores will have consoles available for shoppers to walk in and pick up.
It just about goes without saying that the consoles are going to be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis — well, it’s more civilized than having a wrestling match and award a console to the winner! — but supplies are going to be extremely limited.
Tesco Home Entertainment Manager Stephen Owusu said: “The launch of the Xbox One is a massive event for millions of gamers around the world and the console is sure to top many Christmas present lists this year. We have worked closely with Microsoft to ensure we have a good quantity of initial stock but we will be getting more as we get nearer to Christmas.”
The additional launch-day consoles will be available in Tesco’s larger Extra stores from midnight, and to celebrate the new game system the signage of ten stores around the country will be altered to incorporate the Xbox logo.
