Support for Windows 95 may have been phased out by Microsoft way back in 2001, but the operating system still holds a big place in the heart of many Windows and Microsoft fans. That’s why Slack developer Felix Rieseberg crafted up a neat little app which lets you play around with Windows 95 and its famous stock programs in full glory. (via The Verge.)
Download links and the source code for Riseberg’s application can be found here on his GitHub. The file is a little over 120 MB in size, and there are versions available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Please be aware this isn’t a full-blown version of Windows 95, but rather just a fun application. It’s still pretty remarkable and you can run multi-task and run certain apps like Notepad, and Minesweeper, the Phone Dialer, Paint, and more. Internet Explorer is also present in this app but obviously won’t work.
All in all, this neat little app makes for a nice trip down memory lane. It’s definitely not as technical as running Windows 95 on the Apple Watch or on Microsoft’s Xbox One, but it still is pretty fun. Feel free to check it out and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.Further reading: Microsoft, Windows, windows 95
