Surfy for Windows Phone adds voice search and exclusive HTML5 games in latest update

Surfy is a fantastic alternative to the default Internet Explorer browser that ships with Windows Phone. If you happen to be a regular user of this app, head over to the Windows Phone Store as the app has just been bumped to version 5.0.

Version 5.0 of Surfy adds voice search, giving you the ability to use your voice to query your search. “Surfy allows you to use your voice to search using your preferred search engine. Tap the hardware search button and say, for example, ‘Surfy, search for YouTube Panda videos for kids.’ Surfy launches and opens your chosen search engine page to automatically perform the query. A key advantage is that you’re not locked-in to a particular search engine; you can configure your search provider in Surfy’s options screen,” a spokesperson for Surfy told WinBeta.

The app also features downloadable HTML5 games, thanks to a partnership with TreSensa, a New York based mobile game development and distribution company. This means you can snag HTML5 games like Jem Gem Party and more. You can download these games and play them without an internet connection.

Surfy’s download feature has also been improved, allowing you to save downloaded files using Windows Phone 8.1’s file save picker. The app’s download system has also been improved, allowing you to open files that have been downloaded within Surfy from other apps. Surfy 5.0 also takes advantage of the new app-to-app sharing capabilities in Windows Phone 8.1, and even lets you open links in Surfy from other apps.

“A long awaited feature of Surfy has been file upload support for web forms. With Surfy 5 for Windows Phone 8.1, files of any type, including photos or downloaded files can be uploaded to websites, regardless of where they reside on your phone. A file may even be retrieved via another app, returned to Surfy, and then uploaded via a web page,” the spokesperson adds.

Surfy 5.0 features support for 18 languages and adds support for Simplified Chinese and integrated search support for the Baidu search engine.
