Microsoft’s Surface Book 2, which started shipping in late 2017, is currently one of the oldest devices in the Surface lineup. Microsoft slowly iterates on its Surface line, but the Surface Book should soon get a much-deserved refresh.

Roland Quandt from the German blog Winfuture.de revealed today that the main specs of the Surface Book 3 have already leaked thanks to European retailers. With the latest Intel Core processors, dedicated NVIDIA GPUs, up to 32 GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of fast NVMe storage, the Surface Book 3 appears to be a solid update.

According to the leaked store listings, Microsoft will stick with 13” and 15” models for the Surface Book 3, with Core i5 and Core i7 variants of the 13.5” models and just Core i7 CPUs for the 15” model. The base 13.5 model will come with a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, and prices will apparently go from €2,000 (about $2,192US) to more than €4,000 for the most premium 15″ model with an Intel Core i7 processor, 1TB of storage, and 32 GB of RAM.

If Microsoft is pretty much aiming “prosumers” with its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop lines, the Surface Book line has actually always been the real “Pro” device in the family thanks to its more powerful specs, with the detachable keyboard hiding a dedicated GPU that’s Microsoft didn’t include in its 15″ Surface Laptop 3 last year. So far, the Surface Book line didn’t receive as much attention as the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop devices, but that may be because they remain pretty niche. Surface Book and Surface Studio devices always end up as the least popular Surface devices in AdDuplex’s regular hardware surveys, though there’s still definitely an audience for a real Surface workstation.

Microsoft was expected to announce the Surface Book 3 and a new Surface Go 2 during a Spring Surface event, but now that the company announced a switch to digital-only events through July 2021, we’re not sure how and when the company will announce its latest Surface products. Anyway, the Surface Book 3 launch is likely imminent, and we’ll let you know as soon as we get more details about new Surface devices.
