Earlier today, Microsoft unveiled the brand new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. These two devices will go on sale in October of this year and Microsoft took it to Reddit today to answer any questions regarding the new devices.

When asked why Microsoft made no mention of an LTE version of Surface, Microsoft responded and set the record straight. “Great question. We didn’t talk about it today, but Surface 2 will be launching an awesome LTE SKU early next year! Nice catch on your part, no one else has asked this question…… what better way to tell people than through Reddit!!,” Microsoft’s Panos Panay stated in an AMA session on Reddit earlier today.

Microsoft also revealed that the power connector has been redesigned. “We spent a lot of time redesigning the profile of the connector, the part that you hold with your fingers. We designed it so it is much easier to position and insert it. We also redesigned the LED on the connector such that you can see its indicator from every angle,” Microsoft stated on Reddit.

Microsoft also admitted that the Surface Pro pen will work on the Surface Pro 2 (and the other way around too). The Surface 2 will have about 20% more battery life compared to the original Surface. If you add the Power Cover, you can double the battery life. While the new Touch and Type Covers are backlit, the Power Cover is not.

Consumers can pre-order the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 on September 24th at Microsoft Stores and BestBuy. You can also pre-order your device here at Microsoft’s official pre-order webpage.

According to Microsoft, both devices along with accessories will launch at Microsoft retail stores and select retailers in 22 initial markets including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States on October 22nd.
