Super Bomberman R Online

Super Bomberman R Online, a game that launched exclusively on Google Stadia last year is coming to consoles and PC in 2021. The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but the short announcement mentioned that Super Bomberman R Online will support cross-platform play across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch consoles, and PC.

If this game sounds familiar to you, that’s because Super Bomberman R Online is a battle royale spin-off of the original Super Bomberman R game released on consoles and PC back in 2018. Microsoft offered Super Bomberman R to Xbox Live Gold subscribers back in February 2019, and the action-maze game includes unlockable Halo characters such as Master Chief and The Arbiter, though it has definitely lost steam since its 2018 release.

Super Bomberman R Online became free-to-play on Google Stadia back in December, and we hope the upcoming versions for consoles and PC will also be free-to-play. The new battle royale mode lets gamers compete against up to 64 players from around the world, and it’s a great new variation of the strategic gameplay that didn’t change much since the first Bomberman game from 1985 on the Nintendo NES.

You can still play Super Bomberman R Online for free on Stadia before the game ships on other platforms later this year, though be aware that you may have trouble finding other players. Destiny 2, another free-to-play game on Stadia also suffered from matchmaking issues from the beginning, and Stadia is definitely not the best platform to launch new games with a big multiplayer focus. With Google recently closing its first-party studios making Stadia games, the fate of the cloud gaming platform is still up in the air.
