EA DICE just announced the dates of the upcoming beta for Star Wars: Battlefront. The beta will go live on October 8th and remain open through October 12th for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC through EA’s Origin game platform. And most importantly in the news, the beta will be available during that period for everyone.
In today’s announcement, EA Dice said:
The Star Wars Battlefront Beta and Companion will be available on October 8 and will end on October 12. The Beta and Companion is open to players around the world, so everyone will get a chance to live out their Star Wars battle fantasies.
The Beta won’t be a full version of the game, but it will let players experience three different multiplayer modes on three different planets. The list of the modes that will be available in the Beta are:
- Walker Assault on Hoth: Fight in epic 40-player battles as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-wing bombers. Or, side with the Empire and protect your walkers while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective.
- Drop Zone on Sullust: Escape pods are crashing down and you and your team must fight to control them. With its frantic 8v8 matches, Drop Zone is sure to put your combat and strategy skills to the test.
- Survival Mission on Tatooine: Play alone or with a friend via co-op or split-screen as you battle to hold off waves of Imperial forces including AT-ST’s, TIE fighters, elite stormtroopers and more.
In addition to gaining access to the Star Wars: Battlefront Beta, EA is also releasing the Star Wars Battlefront Companion experience. This Companion will feature a new strategic card game called Base Command, as well as a portal to view your Star Wars: Battlefront stats, progression, load-outs, in-game appearance, a way to connect with friends, and more. The new game Base Command is also said to let you earn in-game Credits used for unlocking content such as weapons in the full release of Star Wars Battlefront. The Companion App will eventually be playable on iOS and Android but for the beta phase it will only be playable through a web browser.
Some of the other details regarding the Beta are that it will be around 7GB in size for the console version, and 11GB for the PC version. Any stats or progression made during the Beta will not carry over to the final release, and there will be a level cap during the Beta, not allowing you to progress past level 5. The Beta will feature up to 40 person multiplayer battles on the Walker Assault mode, giving EA DICE a great opportunity to stress test the multiplayer experience and make sure all the bugs are worked out before the November 17th launch of the game.
If you are interested in trying out the Beta on October 6th you can either download it in the Xbox Live Marketplace for the Xbox One, or download it on Origin for PC in the Demo & Betas section of the Origin Store. The game will be available for pre-loading on PCs beginning at 1:00am PDT on October 7th.
