Not too long ago, Sprint stopped selling Windows Phone handsets in the US possibly because they were more than 18 months old. However, if you’re in possession of a HTC 8XT, there’s a piece of good news for you. Recently, the folks at HTC replied to an HTC 8XT user who asked about the availability of the latest Windows Phone 8.1 update for his handset, and I don’t find it too pleasing as the company expects the update to hit the device by the end of December.
Luckily, he received a response Twitter which states the company plans to release the update by the end of this month. Well, in case you can’t recall, this isn’t the first time HTC 8XT users tied to Sprint were given some hope, it has happened before as well. Earlier this year, a similar promise was made that Windows Phone 8.1 will roll out for Sprint’s HTC 8XT by November, but it never happened. So, we are not sure if it’s going to happen this time as well since the handset in question is quite old, and the carrier has retired the handset from its online store.
HTC’s said in response on Twitter, “We’re planning to push the update out this month. Stay tuned here for the latest news on updates for our devices.”

Microsoft has released the Windows Phone 8.1 update for a handful of Lumia devices in the past few months, with more expected to get the latest Denim update in the coming weeks. If you’re still hooked up to your HTC 8XT, now might be a good time to let it go and look for a new Windows Phone device, possibly a Lumia if you want to get the latest updates.
