Subnautica is finally available to play on Microsoft’s Xbox One console but in a limited Game Preview version that will be used to test the game and is expected to update regularly. The game is a first-person exploration type of game set in the oceans of an alien world.
The player can explore by scuba diving or via piloting submersibles and there is a heavy emphasis on searching for food and items to survive. Subnautica has been available on Steam since December 2014 and this will be its first time on a video game console such as the Xbox One. Here’s the official description:
This game is a work in progress. It may or may not change over time or release as a final product. Purchase only if you are comfortable with the current state of the unfinished game.
Descend into the depths of an alien underwater world filled with resources, creatures, wonder and threats. Craft equipment and submarines to explore lush coral reefs, volcanoes, cave systems, and more – all while trying to survive.
Hugh, from the game’s developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment, said the following on the Game Preview status of the current game. “Subnautica is available on Xbox as a ‘Game Preview’ – This is a way of saying ‘This game is in the early stages of development.’ It’s not finished. In fact, the Xbox version is (for now) a little way behind the Steam version.” He continues, “Just like the Steam version, we will update Subnautica on Xbox regularly. Our first task is to add the Farming & Machinery updates. To receive Xbox specific development updates, follow the Subnautica Xbox Twitter and Subnautica Xbox Facebook pages.”
