The issue causing Skype to crash if you sent or received the characters “http://:” (without the quotes) has been fixed by the Skype team. The issue affected users on Windows, Android, and iOS. We reported the bug yesterday and a fix has been released quicky.

As the bug was causing serious and repeated crashes Microsoft quickly solved the issue. To resolve the issue you have to download the latest version of Skype which can be found on the page Skype announced the fix and through the download link below.

The page outlining the update is rather short as the crux of it is to download the new version. Skype simply stated

“Hello everyone

We are aware of a problem that was causing Skype clients to crash.  Our engineering teams worked hard to resolve this issue, and have released updates for all impacted Skype platforms.”

It’s nice to see that the bug was fixed so quickly after the issue was discovered.
