Following the devastating earthquake that struck Ecuador on April 16, the Skype team is currently offering free calls to landlines and mobiles in the country. In a particularly sad turn of events, the Skype team made this announcement just a day after offering the same free calls in Japan after tragic similar events happened Japan’s Kyushu region. As getting in touch with friends, family and colleagues is vitally important in these circumstances, both these announcements are very welcome. Please read below what the Skype team shared on the company’s blog:

In light of the devastating earthquake that has taken place in Ecuador – and the subsequent impact to the local communications infrastructure – we are making all domestic and international calls to landlines and mobiles in Ecuador free of charge (Excludes calls to special, premium service and non-geographical numbers) for the next few days. This takes place with immediate effect. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the earthquake.

We hope this helps you reach loved ones, friends and colleagues affected by recent events.
