Skype Video Meetings

At a time where Zoom and Microsoft Teams are slowly but surely becoming the default apps for holding video meetings, Skype is trying to keep up with a new Large Grid mode for video calls. The new feature is now available with the latest Insider update, and it can now show up to 49 participants at once on a single screen.

In addition to this new Large Grid mode, this update also makes it easier to add someone to an ongoing Skype call by selecting their phone number or their Skype account. Insiders should also notice some performance improvements due to this update using the latest version of the React Native framework.

Coming soon in a future update are Noise Cancellation, a Teams-inspired Together mode, as well as Categories for predefined background images. If you want to get early access to new Skype features, you can download the Skype Insider app from this page. The app is currently available for everyone on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, and the web. If you’re on iOS and iOS users will need to go through Apple’s TestFlight program to get access to it.
