While most messaging apps have been pushing stickers as the new emojis over the last few years, Skype has followed another direction with its own Mojis, which are short video clips with audio. As of today, most Mojis are short funny clips from movies or TV franchises, but the Skype team has also partnered with artists such as Paul McCartney to create Mojis featuring originally composed creations.
Today, the Skype team has announced that it has joined forces with Seattle-based indie band Tangerine to create a new set of Mojis inspired by the band’s music. "Their music embraces the ups and downs of life and often depicts courage, confidence and hope–themes that Skype relates to strongly," explained the team.
Skype also shared a video of the band during their creative process that you can see below. The Seattle-based trio also shared the following details about their journey:
“When Skype reached out initially, they told us that they wanted to create Mojis inspired by our music and image as a band. They gave us prompts, we wrote music for them, and then the actual animations weren’t even finished until we sent in our finalized songs. That way they were able to make sure that both elements were perfectly tailored to one another. Seeing the actual animations once they were finished was a very gratifying moment!”
