Skype for Windows Phone 8

Starting today, users of higher-end Windows Phone 8 devices will be able to chat with their Skype contacts in high-definition video.

Version 2.4 of Skype for Windows Phone 8 will allow users to experience better call quality by tapping into the hardware acceleration in Microsoft's mobile operating system to enable high-quality video calls. Higher-end devices, such as the Nokia Lumia 920, HTC 8X, and Samsung Ativ S, will be able to produce up to 720P HD video, a Skype spokesperson said today in a blog about the new version. Lower-end phones, however, will deliver VGA video.

The improved application will automatically set video quality based on the speed of the caller’s connection; and callers can now jump between portrait and landscape mode, and use either the front or rear camera for video chats.
