The Seattle Sounders will wear blue Gears of War 4 jerseys to play their final regular season game against Real Salt Lake at CenturyLink Field on Sunday, October 23. That will be the second time that the soccer team has used the empowering (hopefully) jersey after unveiling it during the match against the Los Angeles Galaxy on September 25 when the Sounders won 4-2 (via Geekwire).
Microsoft has been a longtime sponsor of the Seattle Sounders, extending the Xbox-sponsorship of Sounders jerseys throughout 2016 two years ago. Xbox exclusive Gears of War 4 was only released last week to critical acclaim, but it’s actually not the first time that the Sounders are participating in a game marketing campaign: last year, the soccer team also wore Halo 5: Guardians-themed jerseys during a match that happened shortly before the release of the Xbox One game in October 2015.
However, this time, the Sounders truly embraced the Gears fighting spirit by participating to a cool photoshoot wearing both the blue Gears 4 jerseys and full battle armors from the popular shooter franchise. You can watch a behind the scenes video below while more photos are available on the Sounders’ website:
In a news release, Sounders FC owner Adrian Hanauer explained that the Gears-themed jerseys would add “a special flair to the game” on Sunday. “We certainly hope for a similar result as what came from the premier of the jerseys against the LA Galaxy a few weeks ago,” he added.
Fans who will attend the event on Sunday will be able to purchase a limited quantity of authentic Gears 4 jerseys or get their Pacific Blue jerseys embellished in The Pro Shop at CenturyLink Field. Lastly, a social media contest will allow attendees to win an Xbox One S Gears of War 4 Bundle and a Gears 4 Seattle Sounders FC jersey, we invite you to check the Sounders website to get the full details.
