We just recently learned about the new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 line of devices running Windows 8.1 RT and Windows 8.1 Pro respectively. According to a new rumor, Microsoft is planning on a smaller Surface 2 device featuring a 7.5-inch screen.

“The tablet, if it comes to fruition, is expected to have a 7.5-inch display, Rhoda Alexander, director, Tablet and Monitor Research at IHS iSuppli, told CNET. Alexander says her information shows it’s an RT tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 1400×1050 resolution display,” the report states.

The report goes on to state that 3G/4G functionality might be included with this tablet. Microsoft has already revealed that there will be a Surface 2 tablet with LTE capabilities coming soon.

Apparently, mass production of this Surface 2 mini device will take place early next year. Pricing of the new device is not yet known.

Microsoft’s chief financial officer Peter Klein mentioned back in April of this year hinted at the idea of a Surface mini. “We’re working closely with chip partners and OEMs to bring the right mix of devices” and added that Microsoft is looking to “expand the product lineup” and provide “a greater variety of devices at a bigger variety of price points.

The 10-inch Surface 2 tablet is set to be available on October 22nd.
