Resident Evil Village

Capcom has just revealed during its Resident Evil Showcase that Resident Evil Village, the next installment in the popular survival horror franchise will be released on May 7, 2021 on all platforms. The game was initially expected to be a PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S exclusive, but Capcom revealed today that PS4 and Xbox One versions will also be available with free next-gen upgrades (the Xbox version will use Smart Delivery).

Resident Evil Village is the sequel to Resident Evil 7 biohazard, which marked a return to the franchise’s survival horror roots four years ago. Resident Evil will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and it seems that Village will provide a good amount of fan service with several gameplay elements inspired by the beloved Resident Evil 4, such as the familiar inventory system.

Between the mysterious merchant character, the mutated villagers, and a beautiful gothic castle to explore, this new episode looks like an exciting return to form for Capcom. PlayStation 5 gamers can download an exclusive demo of Resident Evil Village called “Maiden” starting today, and a different free demo will be available on PC and Xbox consoles later this Spring.

Resident Evil Village is available for pre-order today, Capcom is offering a Mr. Raccoon Weapon Charm and a Survival Resources Pack as pre-order bonuses. A Deluxe version of the game is also available for pre-order, and it includes a Samurai Edge weapon, an option to replace the save room music and the typewriters you save on with the music and tape recorder from Resident Evil 7 biohazard, and other bonuses.

Gamers who purchase Resident Evil Village will also get access to Resident Evil RE:Verse, a standalone multiplayer deathmatch game featuring iconic Resident Evil characters. You can watch a short teaser trailer below:

Over the past 25 years, Resident Evil has become a true cultural phenomenon with over 25 different games, a series of Hollywood and animated films, with a new live-action series currently in development for Netflix. Resident Evil Village will be one of the first big games to launch later this spring, and we’re really looking forward to seeing Capcom’s excellent RE Engine in action on next-gen consoles.
