Rockstar Games has announced today the upcoming release of Red Dead Redemption 2, a much anticipated successor to the open world, western-themed game Red Dead Redemption. The game is expected to be released on both the Xbox One and Playstation 4 in Autumn 2017 and Rockstar Games teased today that a first trailer of the game will be available on Thursday, October 20 at 11 AM EST.

We don’t know much about the new episode yet except the following description currently found on Rockstar Games’ website:

Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

For those of you familiar with the first game (and its dramatic ending), it’s not clear yet if its successor will be a real sequel, a prequel, or a totally different adventure that would leave behind charismatic and complex hero John Marston (looking at the game’s first teaser image, the classy bad boy on the left bears a slight resemblance to Marston).

Released back in 2010 on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 to critical acclaim, the first Red Dead Redemption game was a fascinating redemption journey set in a very realistic rendition of the wild west. The game featured a much better gameplay than Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV and it definitely remains one of the best backward compatible games that you can enjoy on the Xbox One today. We can’t wait to learn more about its successor later this week.
