Quad Core Windows Slate Revealed at TechEd

During the TechEd conference in New Zealand, Microsoft’s Jeff Johnson and Patrick Hevesi showed off several new Windows Slate devices. Normally, this would be slightly interesting, but something else was mentioned during the session that made everyone move to the edges of their seats.

The announcement that a Quad Core Windows Slate would possibly be given out at an upcoming event was made during TechEd 2011 in New Zealand. In a blog post by Alan Burchill, who attended the event, he states: “What is very interesting is that device was a ‘Quad Core Windows Slate that will be give(n) out at an upcoming Microsoft Event’ Hmmm..”

Microsoft has not revealed on what it plans on giving away at the event but now many are speculating that this new Quad Core Slate device will be given away to attendees during the event.

Mary Jo Foley over at ZDnet tried to get confirmation on the authenticity of this claim but was met with negative results. “I asked a spokesperson with Microsoft’s Windows client team to confirm or deny Burchill’s report that this quad-core Windows slate will be a Build give-away and was told the company had no comment on any part of his report,” Foley stated.

Microsoft’s Build developer conference, which was a re-brand of the annual PDC event, has sold out recently, which is not surprising. Microsoft re-branded the conference to match the company’s new focus towards a “new generation of modern hardware and software development.” The Build developer conference, which takes place Tuesday September 13 to 16 in Anaheim, California, is expected to showcase first public build of Windows 8.
