Microsoft recently rolled out the RTM bits for Windows 8.1 to MSDN and TechNet, offering developers a chance to snag the operating system update. Microsoft also revealed that DreamSpark subscribers would get Windows 8.1 on September 19th.
“Yes, for now only subscription administrators can download Windows 8.1. It will be released on the webstore of your university (and any university that has DreamSpark Premium and has deployed its own webstore) by 9/19/2013,” Microsoft stated on the 14th.
For those who are unfamiliar with DreamSpark, it is a program Microsoft offers to students giving them access to software design and development tools at no charge. Of course, in order to snag this subscription, one must provide proof of student status to Microsoft.
