IBNLive is reporting that Microsoft India is set to launch both variants of the new Lumia flagship phone, the 950 and 950XL, this November. IBNLive is also reporting the two device will be priced at approximately RS 38,000 (roughly $580 USD) for the 950 and RS 43,000 (about $660 USD) for the 950XL. While IBNLive’s unnamed sources reveal pricing information and a more concrete timeframe of a November launch, the report does not include a hard date for when the two flagships devices will be available in India, although the launch”is expected to be in sync with the global rollout”.
Earlier this summer, we reported on Microsoft’s intentions to invest heavily in India with a rebranding of 9,000 Nokia stores and a substantial push in e-commerce in India through a partnership with Snapdeal. When discussing these plans for a renewed push in mobile devices in India, Ajey Mehta, head of Microsoft’s mobile devices in India, said,
“if we want to build Microsoft as a strong consumer brand, we need presence at the flagship, high-end segment.”
If IBNLive’s reports are accurate, Microsoft may be aligning the launch of the new flagship devices to occur nearly simultaneously in multiple markets as the 950 and 950 XL were announced to be launching sometime in November at the Windows 10 Devices event in NYC earlier this month.
