President Obama becomes the first president to write a computer program at Hour of Code
Learning to code has been a focus of tech companies like Microsoft and Google for a while now, but recently the movement has gained extra attention. President Obama made an appearance at the Hour of Code which was hosted at the White House. The 44th president was also the first ever to code a computer program, even if it was just outputting a square on the screen.
The Hour of Code is meant as a spark to get young people interested in computer programing. The event is started by Code.com but has a number of big partners such as Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, EA, Disney Infinity, Facebook, Khan Academe, PopCap Games, Best Buy, and more. When Obama talked about the importance of coding he mentioned it is important for individuals success and for the future economic security of the country.
With more and more jobs moving to high tech or involving more high tech aspects, learning to code is essential to remaining attractive in the job market. Also with low skilled jobs moving over seas the US and other developed countries need to keep their workforce employed, in the new high tech jobs.
