The Plex app on Xbox One got a giant update, likely in preparation for Windows 10. The app has added a bunch of new features, including:
- Music Support – Access and play your own music, in snapped mode or in the background on the home screen.
- Playlists – use all your video and music playlists. You can shuffle songs by your favorite artist, or watch your favorite season of Rescue Me.
- SmartGlass support – Control and see what’s playing on your Xbox One from your own SmartGlass-capable Windows device.
- Cinema Trailers & Extras – Watch movies like you would in a movie theater, with upcoming movie trailers before you watch your movies. Plus you’ll get access to extras like music videos and more.
- Direct Play for MKV – Plex on Xbox One now has MKV video file support.
- Navigation Shortcuts – Search through songs or TV episodes using the left or right triggers, or quickly play something using the X button.
Please keep in mind, you will still need a Plex subscription to access and use many of these new features which can run you $4.99 monthly, $39.99 yearly, or $149.99 for a lifetime Plex subscription.
In addition to these new features, the Plex app on Xbox One fixed a number of bugs and made performance upgrades in preparation of Windows 10 coming to Xbox One later this summer. There is sure to be a number of other great things in store for the Plex app for Xbox One.
