Those Xbox One gamers who are still undecided when it comes to buying Evolve will have their chance to try out the full game for free this weekend from 12:01 PM PDT September 4 until 11:59 PM PDT, September 7. The free trial will be open to all Xbox One owners with an Xbox Gold Live membership and all of the progress made in game will save and be accessible for any potential future play sessions.
Players will also be able to unlock Xbox Achievements during the trial period and subsequentially increase their Gamerscore. After the trial period is over on the 7th, Evolve will go on sale at a 50% price reduction as part of Microsft’s Deals with Gold campaign which temporarily reduces the price of digital games on the console. Current discounted games for September include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag (as well as its Freedom Cry DLC), Don’t Starve: Giant Edition, Nova-111, and Rayman Legends.
To promote Evolve’s free play days, Microsoft has released a video of two gamers hyping up the game. One of them explains the game’s mechanics and provides some useful tips while the other ironically reminds viewers of why so many gamers choose to not play games online with his constant screaming at the viewer and copious amounts of swearing all capped off with some insensitive jokes about the monster being “inside” the other gamer before faux-kissing him (because apparently homosexuality is funny). It’s pretty cringe-worthy and you can watch it all below.
It will be interesting to see if these free play days and discount will increase Evolve’s popularity with Xbox One owners. Will you be coming back to Evolve this weekend or does this promotion make you want to check it out for the first time? What are your thoughts on this video? Let us know in the comments below.
