The upcoming Xbox One-exclusive Scalebound will have to remain just that — upcoming. In a blog post, PlatinumGames announced that Scalebound won’t be on any Xbox One consoles until 2017.
“Development on the game is going well and we’re really happy with how it’s coming together. Scalebound is one of the biggest games PlatinumGames has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale – all set in a beautiful and evolving world. It’s the game our team has always dreamed of making. In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned.”
PlatinumGames have not revealed what those ‘innovative features’ will be, but judging by the gameplay video, they are ambitious on what they plan to deliver in Scalebound. Scalebound follows the story of Drew and his fateful dragon companion, Thuban, who have been paired together on a strange planet, Draconis. Drew and Thuban must defeat forces that threaten to destroy Earth.
Not too much of the actual story has been revealed, but PlatinumGames is calling Scalebound an action RPG. Drew can control Thuban to help create devastating combos as they fight against groups of soldiers and unimaginable monsters on Draconis. With game director Hideki Kamiya, of Devil May Cry fame, Scalebound should be nothing short of legendary. Unfortunately, we won’t know for another year.
