Have you ever looked at a tedious math problem and wish a computer could solve it for you? Well, now a computer can — your Windows Phone!
PhotoMath is an app for Windows Phone (and iOS, with Android coming soon) which enables you to take a picture of a math problem and then solve it. Further, it can show you the steps it took to solve the problem, so you are learning, not merely getting an answer. The current supported features are arithmetic expressions, fractions and decimals, powers and roots, and simple linear equations.
If it sounds a little too good to be true, there is one catch. The problem has to be printed text, the app will not be recognizing your squiggles. However, considering that math problems are found on hangouts or in textbooks, it’s not much of a catch.
This won’t be affecting your education too much, as many teachers/professors do not allow fancy calculators or any electronic devices in tests, so you should be practicing them without this aid, but it does offer a great way to supplement your learning by checking your answers.
