Sonos, the US-based maker of wireless home audio products announced today that Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer Panos Panay was joining its board of directors (via @bdsams). The Surface inventor will follow two media executives who were appointed on February 27, 2020 as the company works on scaling its popular sound experience platform.

“Panos brings extensive experience in building powerful and engaging consumer hardware products and experiences that customers love, at a global scale. He understands how hardware and software work together to deliver products that are easy to use, and deliver a fantastic experience. His track record, along with his passion for Sonos, will make him an impactful contributor to the company’s ongoing success.” said Mike Volpi, Sonos chairman of the board.

Panos Panay isn’t the only Microsoft executive to join the board of directors of big companies: Microsoft President Brad Smith is on Netflix’s board, while CEO Satya Nadella is on Starbucks’ board. If Sonos and Microsoft aren’t direct competitors, Panay apparently has a deep interest in audio products. “Sonos is making some of the best consumer products out there by focusing on the end to end customer experience. I am excited to work with the board and to be part of what comes next,” Panay said.
