The sequel to Blizzard Entertainment’s 2016 multiplayer “hero shooter” Overwatch will launch on October 4 this year as an always-on, free-to-play experience. We got a look at the game during the Xbox & Bethesda Game Showcase with a reveal trailer showing off both gameplay and a story segment, and now we have some new info on Overwatch 2:

Season 1

The first season of Overwatch 2 will introduce three new heroes – Sojourn and Junker Queen, in addition to a new as-yet-unrevealed support hero – when it rolls out in the Fall, along with six new maps set in some pretty iconic locales: New York, Toronto, Rome, Monte Carlo, Portugal, and Rio de Janeiro. Season 1 will also bring over new skins and a new game mode called “Push” in which players fight to push a robot into the enemy base (think of it as tug-of-war, but in reverse).

Season 2

We know that the second season of Overwatch 2 will begin on December 9, with a slew of new content in the form of another 30+ skins, a new map, a new Tank Hero, and new items.

After that, new seasons full of new content will roll out every 9 weeks. And in 2023 the world of Overwatch 2 will expand with new narrative experiences and Player vs. Environment (PvE) content. The new Battle Pass model will provide access to themed items and daily challenges in which players can compete for in-game rewards.
