Microsoft has officially announced that Outlook for iOS and Android are now powered by the Microsoft Cloud for commercial users. Ultimately, this means that your commercial data is more secure than ever thanks to Microsoft’s commitment to security, privacy, and compliance.
The fact that Outlook for iOS and Android are now fully powered by the Microsoft Cloud means that there is now a new Outlook architecture. This new architecture ensures that none of your data contained on your mailboxes will be cached outside of Office 365. According to Microsoft, data simply stays in its current Exchange Online mailbox and is protected by TLS-secured connections end to end between Office 365 and the Outlook apps.
Additionally, Outlook will now individually report a unique Device ID for each device which connects to Exchange Online servers. This is different from before when the Outlook connections from iOS or Android were reported at the user level.
