Nokia Here Maps for Lumia 2520

Nokia recently unveiled their first Windows RT 8.1 tablet, called the Lumia 2520. But did you know that this tablet will feature Nokia’s HERE Maps app on the Windows RT 8.1 platform, exclusive to this tablet? Unfortunately, you won’t get HERE Drive or Transit.

“HERE Maps is now also available on the upcoming Nokia Lumia 2520, delivering the same experience to the big screen. With HERE Maps on your 10.1-inch screen, you’ll be able to plot a journey using the public transport, walking or driving options,” Nokia stated in an official blog post.

HERE Maps is also available offline on the Lumia 2520, allowing you to have a great mapping experience even when there is no network coverage or data connection. HERE Maps even lets you view a destination before you get there, as well as the ability to zoom to street level to see what your destination looks like.

While HERE Maps may be feature-full, that is besides the point. The point here is that Nokia is offering its HERE Maps app on the new Windows RT 8.1 powered Lumia 2520 tablet. Before this tablet, the HERE Maps app was a Windows Phone 8 exclusive.

Once the Lumia 2520 is released, the HERE Maps app will be exclusively available on the Lumia 2520 Windows RT 8.1 tablet. However, it only makes sense that eventually we will see this app be available to other Windows RT 8.1 devices in the market, such as the Surface 2.

If you are a fan of HERE Maps, you now have an incentive to purchase the new Lumia 2520 tablet.

Updated to indicate that only the HERE Maps app will be available for the Lumia 2520. No word on the HERE Drive or HERE Transit app.
