Nokia Chat Beta updated to v1.3, comes with offline mode and faster startup

Nokia has rolled out a new update to the Nokia Chat for Windows Phone 8 app. In this latest update to the Beta app, Nokia has added a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements, as well as some new features.

For those that didn't know, Nokia Chat for Windows Phone 8 features person to person messaging utilizing Nokia Chat and Yahoo Messenger. The app allows you to scan your address book to find users who already use the app. The app features push notification support and Live tile updates, as well as the ability to send information about a restaurant, store, or other points of interest.

In other words, those with a Nokia Lumia smartphone using this app can see details, directions, and reviews within the HERE Maps app. The Nokia Chat app features Tap+Send (NFC) between Nokia Lumia smartphones, along with the ability to share a place. Nokia Chat also features performance and visual improvements since the last Beta release.

Version 1.3 now has a faster startup, allowing you to quickly see your contacts list and have access to past messages while the app updates in the background. Contact lists and conversation threads will now load a lot faster than before.

There is also an offline mode with this new update. "With our new offline mode, you’ll be able to read past messages and see a cached copy of your contacts list.  If your data connection returns while you’re inside Chat, simply tap the connect button: we’ll re-enable message sending, retrieve new messages, and update your contacts list," Nokia explained.
