The Windows Insider Program allows users to test out the latest Windows 10 builds before they reach the general public. This is a great program because it allows Microsoft to create more stable OS versions and squash many bugs.

When a Windows 10 build gets close to its official release date, there should be very few bugs affecting the system. Many Windows Insiders also get bored around this time as new features are few and far between.

The good news is that Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring can now choose to skip ahead to the next update, which means Redstone 4. Most Insiders testing the Falls Creators Update will opt to do since the final build is nearing completion.

Windows 10 skip ahead

As its name suggests, the new Skip Ahead feature allows Insiders to “skip ahead” and install the next pre-scheduled build, which means that they will be working with some pretty advanced things from a calendar perspective.

For instance, Windows Insiders are currently testing out the soon to be released Fall Creators Update in Spring 2018. If they decide to skip ahead, they will be testing the next major Windows 10 update scheduled for release in 2018.

Unchartered territory

While the Insider program allows users to speculate and sneak preview here and there, this won’t be the case for the Skip Ahead option. Insiders running official builds know what to expect, more or less. If they choose to skip ahead, they will be in a completely unchartered territory.

Really raw stuff and the return of the Inbox App tests

The current Windows 10 build doesn’t support testing of the Inbox App. This is one of the features that will return to those who choose to skip ahead on the current update.

It’s very important to keep in mind that the updates coming to this Skip Ahead option will be as raw as they can be. Insiders who aren’t ready or into that kind of rawness coming to their Windows 10 PC should think twice before actually using this new feature.
