Grand Theft Auto 5 online is updated with new ‘Heists’ game mode along with other new content, such as vehicles, weapons and challenges.

Ever since the debut of the original Grand Theft Auto, back in the depths of the 90s under DMA, it has been clear that the main single-player campaign was only intended as a fraction of the total experience on offer. The series has made its name through allowing the player to commit wanton destruction at their leisure; it is a truly open ended world that is offered.

With the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, this was taken to another level, with the introduction of an online mode. For the first time, this allowed players to inhabit an environment populated by something other than mindless NPCs. Rockstar has made it clear that focusing on its online offering is a major priority for the next few years, and the latest update to hit the Xbox version(s) of the game confirms this.

GTA V

A new game mode titled ‘Heists’ has been introduced, described by the firm as,

“massive, multi-layered, 4-player co-operative missions that encourage players to work together and make the most of their individual strengths, and a team’s level of communication and coordination can make or break each mission”

This new game mode is only available for players of a higher experience level, only those with an experience level of 12 and with a high-end apartment can enter. Once completed, heists will become re-playable and new adversary modes will be triggered, allowing a little PvP fun.

The update also brings with it a number of new weapons, vehicles, challenges and achievements, among other things, to see the full list head here.

In all, this is a compelling update, and should give even veteran users a reason to jump back into things (should they need it).
