New Skype for Web experience launches in preview

A new Skype for Web app inspired by the new Skype cross-platform app is now available in preview. The redesigned web app is available at preview.web.skype.com, and for now can only access it with Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. The app is pretty much Skype v8 with all the latest bells and whistles including, HD video calling, Call Recording, the Chat Media Gallery, Skype Add-ins and more.

During the preview, Microsoft is inviting users to share their feedback before opening it up to a bigger audience. You can leave your feedback by selecting the Report a problem option in the Skype menu. Compared to the current Skype web app which hasn’t been updated in a long time, the new experience is a refreshing change.

If you have already installed the Windows 10 October 2018 update on your PC, we remind you that this new Skype experience has replaced the previous Skype UWP app, and Skype for Windows 10 also integrates with MyPeople and the Windows 10 Sharing menu. Recently, Microsoft has also started testing Split View Mode with Skype Insiders, bringing Skype for Windows 10 a bit closer to the soon to be deprecated Skype Classic desktop app.
