New firmware updates are available for Surface Laptop 3 and Surface Laptop Go

Microsoft has recently pushed out new firmware updates for its Surface Laptop 3 and Surface Laptop Go devices. The AMD and Intel variants of the Surface Laptop 3 are getting a different set of updates, but the list of fixes is quite important.

For owners of a Surface Laptop 3 with an AMD processor, the February 2021 firmware updates bring improvements to the graphics performance and overall system stability. These bits also aim to address some stability and reliability problems, including issues with waking from sleep. You can check out the full details below:

  • AMD Radeon (TM) Vega 9 Graphics – Display Adapter / AMD Radeon (TM) Vega 11 Graphics – Display adapters: Improves system graphics performance, stability, and security.
  • Surface TCON device -Human Interface Devices: Resolves system bugcheck while resuming from sleep.
  • Surface Integration Service Device – System devices: Improves integration between system services and resolves an issue with telemetry reporting.
  • Surface System Aggregator – Firmware: Improves system stability and system telemetry reporting.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware: Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

In a batch of updates dated February 5, the Intel-based Surface Laptop 3 models also received similar graphics performance, stability, and security improvements. You can get more details in the full release notes below:

  • Intel(R) Iris(R) Plus Graphics – Display adapters: Improves system graphics performance, stability, and security.
  • Intel(R) Iris(R) Plus Graphics Extension: Improves integration between system services and stability.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware: Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

Finally, the new Surface Laptop Go has a more extensive list of updates, and this batch packs audio performance, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stability improvements, and more. Moreover, these updates resolve the issue with the battery icon on the taskbar. You can check out the full list of changes below:

  • Realtek Hardware Support Application – Software devices: 11.0.6000.92 Improves audio performance while streaming content.
  • Realtek High Definition Audio (SST) Extension – no Device Manager notes: 6.1.0.8 Improves integration between system services and stability.
  • Realtek High Definition Audio(SST) – Sound, video, and game controllers: 6.0.9014.1 Improves audio performance and resolves the associated system bugcheck.
  • Surface Battery – Batteries: 2.56.139.0 Resolves the issue where the battery icon is not available in the taskbar.
  • Surface Integration Service Device – System devices: 6.105.139.0 Improves integration between system services and resolves an issue with telemetry reporting.
  • Intel(R) WiFi 6 AX201 160MHz – Network adapters: 22.0.1.1 Improves Wi-Fi stability.
  • Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth – Bluetooth: 22.00.3.1 Improves Bluetooth stability.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware: 8.15.140.0 Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

As usual, the firmware updates are available for all Surface Laptop Go users, as long they’re running Windows 10 version 1909 or newer. Keep in mind that the new bits are rolling out in stages, and you may not be able to get them immediately via Windows Update.
