Over the last couple of years, we’ve heard several rumors suggesting that the Redmond based company might sell its search engine, Bing. Today, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a talk at Recode’s Code Conference made it clear that the company has no intentions of selling Bing search to Yahoo.
“In the ‘post-post PC world’ where our dependence on data has increased several folds, Microsoft will continue to focus to make its search engine more efficient. Company is putting its resources on finding the answers to our questions and needs,” Nadella explained.
Over the past few months, Bing has helped the company understand various aspects of consumer’s needs. Bing has 18 percent share of the search market, and 30 percent if you include what it powers on behalf of Yahoo. Nadella considers this a success. “I say it’s very important technology,” Nadella said. “We are very happy to partner with Yahoo and not selling it.”
Bing plays an important part with the functioning of Windows Phone’s voice assistant service Cortana. The search engine has been integrated with several of Microsoft services. Nadella says that the core value of Bing is a lot more than Bing.com.
